Placozoa

All free-living. Most specimens are found in calm marine environment containing hard underlying surfaces (e.g., shores and beaches that are stony and rocky, coral reefs, and mangrove roots) while some have been found living in brackish environment (e.g., intertidal pools, muddy ponds, mangrove streams). Despite the first species was officially described in 1883 (138 years ago), the second and third species were only recently recognized in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
